The Norse Vikings settled in Iceland in 874. The history of Iceland is closely related to the Sagas of the Vikings and many of the original manuscripts have been preserved. The Vikings brought with them animals like sheep, cows and horses that have lived in isolation in Iceland since. Today some of the traditional food Icelanders eat every day dates back to the Vikings such as Skyr which was the food of the Vikings during long trips at sea.
